About Dr. Nesbitt

Dr. Travis Nesbitt is a Diplomat of the American Board of Oral & Maxillofacial Surgeons (ABOMS).  He is the owner and primary oral surgeon at Nesbitt Oral & Facial Surgery in Mooresville, NC.

Dr. Nesbitt has always been passionate about oral health, and in particular, oral surgery. After college, Dr. Nesbitt completed a Master’s in Public Health with a focus on Dental Public Health, at the University of Medicine and Dentistry of New Jersey. Here, he developed a keen interest in not just treating the problem presenting itself, but treating the whole patient and the root causes of dental and oral health concerns.

He went on to pursue his Dental degree at Rutgers School of Dental Medicine. While at Rutgers, Dr. Nesbitt was recognized for his skills in oral surgery procedures, including implants. He was selected for a summer externship as part of the Indian Health Services, where he provided dental care on a Native American Reservation, focused primarily on extractions. He also completed oral surgery externships at Rutgers and UT Medical Center in Knoxville, TN.

Immediately following Dental School, Dr. Nesbitt went on to complete an extensive hospital-based Oral & Maxillofacial Surgery Residency in Brooklyn, New York. During residency, Dr. Nesbitt provided complex oral surgery care and received in-depth oral surgery and anesthesia training at several hospitals. He also worked at a private practice where he further developed his skills in complex extractions.

Dr. Nesbitt and his wife Kate decided to relocate to North Carolina after residency to enjoy the nicer weather, nearby mountains, and beautiful lakes in the area. After practicing in a larger group practice for several years, Dr. Nesbitt decided to open his own private practice to offer personalized care to patients in the Lake Norman area.

In his free time, Dr. Nesbitt enjoys hiking, kayaking and trying local restaurants and breweries with his wife Kate. Dr. Nesbitt also enjoys volunteering in the community and participating in community care events, like Missions of Mercy, where he has the opportunity to provide complementary oral health care to underserved areas across the state of North Carolina.

What Is an Oral & Maxillofacial Surgeon?

After dental school, Oral Surgeons complete a 4 or 6 year hospital-based residency program that prepares them to deliver specialized surgical treatment and care.

What Does It Mean to Be Board Certified?

Board Certification is a rigorous process beyond oral surgery licensure that ensures your doctor meets the highest standards for the procession. When a patient chooses a surgeon who is Board Certified, they can be confident their doctor is an expert in their specialty and has met the highest standard to deliver the highest quality care possible.
