What Is an Oral & Maxillofacial Surgeon?
Oral surgeons are highly specialized dental and medical professionals, who offer experience, skill, and advanced training in oral and facial surgery, as well as general anesthesia. After dental school, Oral Surgeons complete a 4 or 6 year hospital-based residency program that prepares them to deliver specialized surgical treatment and care. In the state of NC, licensed Oral Surgeons hold and oral surgery license and a general anesthesia license.
What Does It Mean to Be Board Certified?
Board Certification is a rigorous process beyond oral surgery licensure that ensures your doctor meets the highest standards for the procession. When a patient chooses a surgeon who is Board Certified, they can be confident their doctor is an expert in their specialty and has met the highest standard to deliver the highest quality care possible. Not all oral surgeons are board certified, so when you’re selecting the doctor to perform your surgery, make sure they are certified by the American Board of Oral & Maxillofacial Surgeons.
